What a Difference Two Months Make

Just back from the Pacific Northwest, an island-hopping trip from Vancouver to Seattle via Victoria and the San Juan Islands.

The Vancouver leg was to attend a wedding, which is a bit out of scope for this blog. But I did want to note how the weather is better this time of year.

Consider this beach:

This was in early July, just as their summer was beginning.

Now compare it to what it looked like on Labor Day two years ago.

We in the East would consider Labor Day still prime beach time, but there it was already well into fall.

Note though that even on what counts in Vancouver as a nice summer day, there were still not many people out. The temperature was in the low 70s; the water, in the low 60s. Lovely weather but a bit chilly for the beach by my standards.

(But oh, how people in the Northwest like to soak up whatever sun they get. Stay tuned for the details ... )
